Getting Involved
WTPfilms seeks funding for its programs from a variety of sources including foundations, corporations and private citizens. We welcome contributions, tax-deductible donations and in kind sponsorships, we are interested in working with like-minded individuals and organizations. We believe it is vital to the future of this great nation that the public be further educated on the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the intention of the men who wrote them. By joining with the Center for Civic Education to bring the “We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution” program to national television in an informative and entertaining series of shows, we open the door to not only showing the public a positive image of young people involved and interested in the political process but also educating and engaging the audience as a whole.
“We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among them are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Thomas Jefferson’s idealism captured the Spirit of 1776, but it was James Madison and the Framers of the Constitution meeting eleven years later in Philadelphia who wrote the words that enabled our nation to endure. Arguing for its ratification in Federalist #51 Madison pragmatically explored the symbiotic balance between the government and the people: “If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.” Few today read or understand these words.
